New Initiative: Museum Club Oderberg

On 26 February 2026, the pilot project “Museum Club Oderberg” was launched at the Inland Waterways Museum in Oderberg under the direction of Antje Diestel and Anke Marquardt, with 14 interested children aged between 7 and 9.

The participants come from German, Syrian, Kurdish and Lebanese families and are pupils at Oderberg Primary School, Inselgrundschule in Neuenhagen, or the village school in Lunow.

This extracurricular project aims to provide children with historical and geographical knowledge about the region through a new and creative format. It is run by the German Museums Association under the motto “Museums Make You Strong” and is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Participation is free of charge for the children.

The Museum Club meets twice a month, always on Thursdays from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. During these sessions, the bow section of the historic side-wheel steamer Riesa is transformed into a lively classroom and creative space.

The pilot project “Museum Club Oderberg” will run until 16 July 2026. A variety of exciting topics are on the agenda: in addition to educational sessions at the Inland Waterways Museum, joint excursions are planned, including visits to the Niederfinow Boat Lift and the Oderbruch Museum in Altranft.
