Project: Oderberg – The Way I See It

Culture Makes Us Strong. We Can Make Art -Kumasta

Children from the after-school care centre at Albrechtsberg explore Oderberg, stroll through its streets and lanes, look at houses and streets from different perspectives, and discover old and new things as well as many beautiful details.

They capture their impressions using cameras, smartphones and tablets.

They investigate what Oderberg looked like in the past and what has been preserved to this day.

In a playful way, the children explore what their ideal town might look like and what makes a place their favourite.

Back at the after-school care centre, their impressions and discoveries are transformed into works of art using a variety of techniques and materials.

The children draw, paint, print and create crafts.

The resulting pictures and photographs are brought together in an exhibition presented to parents, friends and interested visitors.

Interim results were already shown during the “Offene Höfe” event in August 2026 at the former Schwarzer Adler.

The project “Oderberg – The Way I See It” encourages and strengthens the children’s creative self-expression.

It takes place as part of the federal programme “Kultur macht stark – Bündnisse für Bildung” and is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMBFSFJ).

The programme partner at federal level is the Bundesverband Bildender Künstlerinnen und Künstler (BBK), the Federal Association of Visual Artists.

Within the BBK programme, the project is part of “Wir können Kunst”.

The local partners in Oderberg are the Hort am Albrechtsberg after-school care centre, Förderverein Grundschule Oderberg e.V. and Förderverein des Binnenschifffahrts-Museums Oderberg e.V.

The project is led by artist Heike Pander, who runs a studio in Oderberg.

Participation is free of charge for the children. The project runs from July to December 2026.
