Rafting and wood processing

The trade route through Oderberg, the Oder as an important waterway and the granting of storage rights in the 13th century formed the basis for lively trade in the region, from which the craft industry also benefited greatly. In modern times, fishing, the timber industry and shipbuilding formed the basis of Oderberg's economy alongside crafts, with shipbuilding flourishing particularly in the second half of the 19th century.

Lake Oderberg was the largest timber storage site in northern Germany. When there was no more timber available in the region, it was purchased from Poland and Russia. The timber was tied together and transported to Germany by water. Such timber cranes were used for storage work on Lake Oderberg.
