Fishing in Oderberg

A tradition dating back thousands of years.

Long before Oderberg was founded, fishing was one of the most important sources of food for the people in this region. 

As early as 1000 AD, the Slavic fishing village of Barsdyn existed on the left bank of the Oder, protected from the annual floods.

Fishing was once freely accessible to everyone and shaped life and work along the Oder for centuries.

In our fishing department, you can learn more about the more than 1,000-year history of fishing in Oderberg.

Among other things, we display historical tools, fishing gear and equipment as once used by the Oder fishermen.
